An Up Close Encounter with Huahine by Poerava (Beautiful Pearl)
Poerava, a native of Huahine, will guide you on all encompassing 4WD tour of Huahine where she will share her secrets of the island!
Here is a complete tour to exploring Huahine guided by Poerava. You will be picked up by a 4WD to discover each secret of her island!
You will start with a visit of Huahine Iti (South Huahine, Iti means small), discovering the different bays with breathtaking views of the lagoon featuring many photo opportunities. A visit to the arts & craft boutique is also a must to learn more about the culture and traditional art of Polynesia.
Then you will continue on to Huahine Nui (North Huahine, Nui means big): walking around the stunning archaeological sites (marae), vanilla plantations, visiting a pearl farm, and stopping to see the famous blue eyed eels of Huahine.
You will also learn about the tale of the pregnant woman (Island Princess) as you visit the village of Fare, the discovery of the giant fern (the symbol of Huahine) and view the fish traps made of volcanic stone in Maeva demonstrating how the Polynesians fished in ancient times.
If you chose the “full day” option, you will be invited by a native of Huahine to join in on a typical Tahitian meal. You can try the local recipes such as broiled fish with vanilla sauce or fish salad with vanilla guava jelly. You can participate in the daily, local cultural activities such as weaving a head crown or how to open a coconut. Your guide will sing Polynesian songs, telling the sacred legends, history and culture of the island.
